For Ita Wegman’s 150th birthday
The courage to heal
from 20. to 22. February 2026
The conference marking her 150th birthday on 22 February 2026 will honour Ita Wegman’s extensive life’s work in the field of the anthroposophical art of healing and supportive education, her service to countless people in need, her alert historical judgement and achievements in resistance, but also her social commitment to an Anthroposophical Society open to and connected with the world as well as to the Goetheanum as a School of Spiritual Science with a cosmopolitan orientation.
The conference, which is being jointly organised by the General Anthroposophical Section, the Medical Section and the Section for Inclusive Social Development, will focus on the question of the FUTURE.
‘Resignation was a concept alien to Ita Wegman,’ emphasised Madeleine van Deventer. ‘Hopeless – that word did not exist for her.’ Emanuel Zeylmans van Emmichoven spoke of Ita Wegman as an inspirational genius of anthroposophy, and he was convinced that the inner connection to her, the intentions and motives behind her work, would carry the anthroposophical movement and the Goetheanum forward into a healing, Michaelic future in a world under threat.
‘I am for striding forwards’ (Ita Wegman)
‘If we are cowardly in any way, we do not live with the world, we exclude ourselves; we only appear to breathe.’
(Rudolf Steiner)
