The Goetheanum: a place of study and learning
More than a century after its founding, the Goetheanum continues to evolve and grow through thestudy and research of anthroposophy and its contribution to world developments and the pressing questions of our time.
The Department for Further Education at the Goetheanum (Goetheanum Studium) supports the twelve faculties of the School of Spiritual Science to bring their expertise into study programs. It offers learning opportunities for adult students interested in anthroposophy and its impact across the arts, humanities, natural and social sciences. All programs are developed and taught by experienced educators, researchers, and practitioners from the School’s twelve sections.
Our academic year in numbers:
The 2024–2025 academic year reflected the diversity of the Goetheanum’s international and intergenerational learning community both on campus and in the online programs. It also highlighted the importance of broadening access through scholarships, helping to ensure that financial circumstances do not prevent participation.
- We had 160 students enrolled, aged between 18 and 70 years
- they came from more than 40 countries
- we granted 17 scholarships
Learning as process and relation
With each individual program, the Goetheanum aims to offer a space where anthroposophy is not only studied but continually lived, explored and reshaped in accordance with an ever-changing world. To achieve this, students and teachers approach the study of anthroposophy as dialogue, as a path of knowledge that unfolds in moments of shared learning. This means understanding education as a lifelong path, an ongoing practice of learning how to learn, encouraging curiosity, independence, and intellectual vitality.
In the various courses, anthroposophy is experienced in different modes: text study, artistic practice, andhuman encounter. Learning is grounded in relational activity where knowledge is understood as participation in reality and becomes something lived and cultivated.
