Strong future images
The global network of the Social Science Section is meeting the fears of our time with positive, encouraging and strengthening images of our common future.
Fear determines our public culture and bears us down: fear of climate change and the loss of species, of terror and war, of brutalized politics and the decline of democracy, of decadence and poverty – fear of the future. The Social Science Section seeks to counterpose this fear with a vision of the future, with concrete ideas and starting points for a necessary and comprehensive transformation.
In 2019, for instance, we used the major milestones of Waldorf 100 and a hundred years of Social Threefolding as opportunities to speak publically about steps towards a renewal of the cultural, political and economic life. In many countries, in branches and schools, in public places, auditoriums and concert halls we did what we could to make the idea of threefoldness a topic of public discourse, in the sense and in the language of our time: as a way of experiencing and understanding the deeper developmental forces that are at work in the social sphere and of shaping a modern, dignified society together, out of these forces.
The preconditions for this were created by the research and networking, the events and colloquia of the previous years. This work, which was carried out at the Goetheanum and elsewhere, is now bearing fruit. During our congress in Stuttgart, for example, in the birth place of social threefolding, we presented over a hundred initiatives in a ‹marketplace of possibilities›. Out of the anthroposophical social impulse, these initiatives presented relevant and practicable ways towards a free, just and brotherly/sisterly society. For: the future we want can only arise in us and only through us can it arrive in the world.
