The space between

On 28 December the Goetheanum Eurythmy Ensemble will present its new programme, Threads of Light.

It is part of our attitude to life today that we are on our way without knowing where our path will lead us. «This being on one’s ways is connected with the experience that everything that exists keeps changing, in politics, ecology, economy and in our own soul life,» says Stefan Hasler, one of the Ensemble’s directors. There are no maps or navigation devices for this journey, because the direction emerges in the space between myself and the other – and is therefore always new.

In its new programme, Threads of Light, the Eurythmy Ensemble creates transitions and in-between spaces from various perspectives. In music, it honours Ludwig van Beethoven on his 250th birthday with Opus 132, one of his late string quartets, with the slow movement «sacred thanksgiving to God by one who has recovered from illness, in the Lydian mode». As a contrast to this, there will be two pieces from Je sens un deuxième coeur by Kaija Saariaho, for viola, cello and piano.

In the spoken texts, too, intimacy and drama meet: in the extracts from Marica Bodrožić’s The Water of our Dreams we experience the sensitively described inner life of a coma patient; the dramatically sculpted scenes from El cántaro roto by Octavio Paz touch on the cosmological-human experience of incarnation and despair in meeting earthly life, the insight that one can act differently and, finally, the affirmation of life.
